#18. Greece at its best

You know that people say “you must miss something in order to appreciate it”. In my case it’s not that I didn’t like Greece or anything like that. It’s just that I wasn’t aware. Aware of its beauty, of its melody and harmony. Someone living in Greece and reading this might think “this guy must have never lived in Greece! Where is harmony in Athens? In Thessaloniki? In Patra?”. Well, call me nuts but isn’t a picture like this enough to make you forget about all our flaws? Our traffic, our politicians, our misery and nagging? For me it is… The photo was taken in Agios Nicolaos (Saint Nicolas) on the way to Potami Beach in Samos.

There are things you can’t get out of your mind about summer. Like sexy girls in their bikinis on the beach and the mixed smell of the skin, the sun oil and the saltiness of the sea.

I know it’s been a long time since my last post but I was on the run. I’ve been to Lancaster, Manchester, Athens, Samos, Thessaloniki, Thassos. More photos are about to come but for now this is one I took at Karlovassi Port at the cafe I was enjoying my fredo…

This is how life would look like if we were living in a bottle… but we are not!

The weather is getting better here in Lancaster. The trees outside our kitchen window once without any leafs, you could see people jogging behind them, now are full of them. A green wall that separates our house from the road passing by… There stood the little pingeon.

Today we hit the grass! We went for a BBQ at the football pitch in East Campus. The weather was more than ok for English standards. 22˚C are enough to warm your heart especially when you can almost feel the sun burning you making you think: “I could have worn my cargo short pants instead”. Anyway, it was a really good day…

Dizziness… Is it Friday’s night alcohol consumption? Is it Saturday’s morning sun? Is it for real? Have a nice weekend everybody! Last night was great!

That night was really cold somewhere outside of Limenaria. Limenaria is the village I grew up on Thassos island in Greece. I went for ride with the car to take some photos… I was thinking about a panoramic night photo of Limenaria. I stopped the car by the road on the hill. To be honest the panoramic photo was awful. Then I turned the camera to the car whose flash lights were blinking. That’s the photo I resulted with. This is the essence of photography. It comes inexplicably and without method. Remember to always pay attention to the surroundings.

#9. Kala na’maste

Kala na’maste in greek is written “Καλά να’μαστε” and it means “Let’s all be well”. The other day I saw the movie Stranger than fiction. Can’t say much but the bottom line is that nothing comes without consenquencies. Enjoy with responsibility and remember the lyrics by Editors “People are fragile things, you should know by now. Be careful what you put them through“. I’m not trying to sound pessimistic, exactly the opposite I would say… The point I’m trying to make is “proceed with caution” and everything’s going to be just fine!
